Estadi Camp Nou . Barcelona vs Almeria

FC Barcelona is the 2nd team that I’m supporting after Liverpool FC, and it’s been a dream for me to visit their stadium and watch their match live. So during my planning stage to visit Barcelona at Autumn 2009, i checked FC Barcelona schedule and quite lucky to have them hosting Almeria at my 2nd last day there. Since it won’t be a big match i decided to just get the ticket on the spot when i reach Barcelona since buying ticket online are more expensive.

I was too lazy to go Nou Camp before the match day ( it’s quite a distance from the city centre ) but i’m afraid that i won’t get a ticket if i show-up directly before the match, so a friend told me that i can book the tickets at tourist information centre at La Rambla.

So at my 1st day there, i visited the tourist information centre to booked the ticket. I quite lucky to have a friend ( fellow Indonesian that working in Barcelona that time ) so i won’t be screaming alone (; When we booked the ticket, most of the middle area was fully booked, so we decided to get seats near one of the corner kick spot, 5 rows from the front. It costs us around 60 euro.

A bit of history of Camp Nou, it was constructed at 1957 and always been home for FC Barcelona since then. It maximum capacity was changed few times with addition / reduction of seats, with around 120,000 pax maximum during 1982 World Cup. But with current UEFA stricter rules on stadium safety, it settled with 99,354 capacity, the largest stadium in Europe, and the eleventh largest stadium in the world. Beside football, it also used for major music concert.

Ok, photos time (;

My precious ticket (;

We come about 3-4 hours earlier to collect our ticket and to go around the stadium before the match. There’s Kubala’s statue between the stadium at the Barcelona store.

100 years Barcelona monument..

A couple of cute FC Barcelona fans (;

And after that we get into the Barcelona store. Too bad the exchange rate of SGD x Euro was really bad that time ( 2.1 SGD = 1 Euro ) so the jersey was much cheaper in Singapore.

After spending some time around the shop, we saw some crowds in front of the stadium, it turns out that they are waiting for the players to come on their fancy cars and show some supports to them. So we joined the crowds, and manage to see some players with their pretty wife and expensive car.

The only one that i managed to shoot properly, Dani Alves with a random guy.. ( he’s the only one who come with another guy i think hehe )

And here we go, entering the Camp Nou… it was grand, but you can see that it was quite old already..

That’s why they assigned Sir Norman Foster to re-design the facade of the stadium at 2007. Too bad the plan was pending because of 2008 economy crisis. Until now we haven’t hear any update on the renovation.

There’s a lot of Ibra’s fans around the crowds, i’m one of them. I still don’t understand how can you judge a guy who scores 16 goals in his first season a flop. It’s not that Ibra is bad, it just Messi is godlike! (; But anyway, i believe 100% in Guardiola.

The entrance to our gate, looks really old huh…

The interior is even worse… but….

When we reached the stand, i saw the stadium in awe, and i was like OMGWTFBBQ… The seats are really clean, tidy, and properly maintained…

And the grass was wonderful… ( compared to the muddy football field that i used to played during my school time )

And the size of the stadium… wow…

Spend no more time, it’s facebook profile picture time!!

The stadium looks quite empty because only tourists like us come early hehe…

18.59.. Still an hour before the kick-off time…

Then I just shoot randomly to kill time… a hot Barcelona ball girl…

A grandfather brought his 2 grandchildrens to the match… how lucky are they! It reminds me of my grandfather brought me to Sidolig Stadium to see some Liga Persib matches…

Cute old couple who made customized Barcelona seat cover….

A happy football fans, i bet he changed his facebook profile pic after the match…

And a couple of father and daughter… awwww… i swear if i got daughter i will bring her to football match as well…

Meanwhile, the players already started to warming up…

A Boixos Nois member, the right-wing FC Barcelona fanatic fans group…

The stadium filling up fast… the match will be starting soon…

They’re doing the group photos… and kick-off time has come…

Kick-off… i didn’t took a lot of photos after this… too busy screaming and jumping… too bad i can’t chant most of their spanish song…

View from our seats to left back area… Maxwell was there most of the time…. Xavi looks shorter than on the TV…

And goal for FC Barcelona… it was Pedro with his amazing long range shoot… I feel like there’s an earthquake on the stadium… The atmosphere are really great… i can’t imagine how it will be better during the match vs Real Madrid / Clasico..

Barcelona 1 – 0 Almeria!! we expect at least 2-3 goals (;

But no more goal until half time… we are expecting more action at the 2nd half since Barca is attacking our near side…

We saw more of Ibra’s action at 2nd half… he’s the link for all Barca’s long highball by knocking down most of the aerial ball…

Dani Alves was overlapping all the time in our side of field, and of course some Messi’s action… Too bad that Iniesta was injured that time…

Messi & Xavi.. Too bad, Barca didn’t add anymore goal at 2nd half despite of 60-70% possession… But it still a really good game…

After that i still manage to go to the 2nd level of the stadium to took some pictures before i left…

It was one of the best moment in my life!! To see them live is totally a different feeling compared watching them in TV… Even TV cover more angle and can see clearer, but the atmosphere and the screaming on the stadium is irreplaceable..

And i added one more item in my bucket list, to watch Barcelona kicks Real Madrid ass in Camp Nou before i die….

  1. those are great pictures… and i love barca and liverpool too.. anyways you mentioned that iniesta was injured on this game, but you have a pic of him next to maxwel..

  2. Fantastic pictures. My parents took me to the Camp Nou for my 11th Birthday. The stadium was being extended at the time to 125,000 ready for the 1982 World Cup Finals. I would love to go back!!!!
