Finding Matterhorn II

The part I of this post can be read here : Finding Matterhorn I

I’m waking up nearly every 2 hours to check the weather, but no luck. Even the rain has stop, but the cloud still blocking the view to Matterhorn. So i had to give up with the idea of doing star trail, and can only hope that the sky will be clear up in the morning.

Around 4 in the morning, the cloud start to moving fast ( thanks to the freezing wind ), i can see a bit glimpse of sky and it’s amazing, you can see the milky way.. but too bad, the cloud is keep coming and blocking.

You can see the stars! Imagine if the sky is clear! );

Just before dawn, i can see the base of the Matterhorn, with some points of light. The light source are the climber that moving toward the peak. I think they’re targetting to reach the summit by sunrise time.

It nearly sunrise time, and the light on the cabin is on, i think the people at the kitchen already start to preparing breakfast.

And the moment that we have waiting for is come! The cloud is clearing, and for the first time i can see the summit of the Matterhorn! Cessy & Hedi woke up and come just in time to join me..

And this was of the most amazing view i ever seen, when the reddish sunlight fall directly on the summit.

So.. off we go (;  Forgotten about how tired were we after yesterday hike, we walk down to the Lake Stellisee…

While making few facebook profile photos on the way (;

The reflection of the lake looks much better, compared with yesterday grey-ish color (;

Thanks to my friends for choosing the right accomodation and route, so we can see the infamous Matterhorn with it reflection on the lake. We took dozens of photos, and i will post quite a lot, so i hope you guys are not bored with mountains..

I guarantee i look this good no matter what kind of camera you use (;

Hedi with his camera equipment, both Cessy & Hedi won quite a lot of awards in photo competitions, i bet they are in the process of making another award winning photos.

The Evolver works well as an accent (;

Group photos time (;  At last mr. Tripod is being useful, after being such a burden on yesterday hiking..

And of course facebook profile photo.. It’s good to go around with photographers, they will assured your facebook photo are well taken (;

Time to go back to the Fluhalp for our breakfast before check out and continue the journey… It always feels nearer if you walk same route for the 2nd time…

What a glorious light…

Close up shot of the big guy…

Meet a guy from France, have a bit of chat, he also feels really happy with today weather, he has been around this area for few days, and now is the first time he manage to see the Matterhorn (;

When we reach Fluhalp, the German family already prepared to continue hiking…

After having a great breakfast, i do a lil bit of exploring around the Fluhalp since i haven’t manage to do it yesterday ( blame it on my stamina ). Took a self portrait.. i look much thinner and taller….

Cessy and Yasmin enjoying playground with the best view in the world…

Nice place to just sit, relax and drink coffee  for the rest of the day… but i don’t have the luxury to do that, we need to hike back >_<

This guy is luckier than me… i guess…

Manage to find some snow behind the Fluhalp, make a snowman… OK Mr. Snowman.. 1.. 2.. 3.. Chesse!

The innkeeper just updated the lunch menu… i’m not sure what is that, but 35 CHF is quite expensive for a lunch >_<

They really chosen a very striking color for all the windows & signage, very important during low visibility time at winter i guess…

2 Small off-road trucks, belong to the Fluhalp, the main function is to keep Fluhalp full with alcohol (;  Too bad they can’t give us a free lift…

So we continue our journey… we will go down with a different route, now we will try to reach Sunnegga while passing 5 lakes ( the Stellisee is one of it )

The guidebook called it : “5 Seenweg hiking route, but we modified it a bit by passing Fluhalp and stay there for a night” 2 hours?? yeah right…

That time, i still doing quite a lot of “Lying Down Games” photo, it’s a game where you randomly lying down in any random place, then upload it in their facebook page. My best one is the photo of me lying down in the middle of street in Singapore while people crossing the road beside me… (;

A shrine in the middle of nowhere…

View to Fluhalp from our track that keep changing level, going up and down.. drained our stamina…

Interesting looking flowers….

And we reach Lake Grindjisee afther awhile… Quite of different ambiance of the empty looking Stellisee, this one actually looks very green and friendly for picnic lunch (;

We are sitting there for awhile for resting and photo taking, there’s other group of old ladies there…

There’s actually some fishes in this lake, i wonder where are they going during winter since the lake will be frozen…

And then we just realize that cloud is starting to cover Matterhorn again… with big chunk of cloud is moving toward it… i think it will be another no Matterhorn view for tonight….

We passed another group of old people when we left Grindjisee, seems that old people here are very healthy.. they love doing trekking, i think i will love it too if i stay in Switzerland… ( who knows hehe )

Cloud eating Matterhorn….

We met more crowds compare to yesterday track, people are everywhere and there’s so many different track…

This lake looks that it has milk inside… it’s Moosjiesee Lake, looking the location of it that is 100m below the main track, we decide not to visit it… ( we can imagine the suffering of climbing up )

Nature’s painting…

Lone bench in the middle of the mountain, with Matterhorn at the background ( but covered by cloud ) i think this place will be a popular dating spot if it’s in Singapore…

From far we can already see a civilization… i fell down and sprained my ankle around this area if i’m not mistaken… wearing a running shoes for hiking is not a good choice… but i can only afford to bring a pair of shoes and slippers during this 24 days trip…

And we reach the last lake before Sunnegga, Leisee Lake, it ended we only passing 4 lakes.. we somehow miss the other one lake ( Grunsee ) blame it to our poor navigation skill i guess (;

So we kinda survive this hiking trip i guess, combining cable car and trekking, we covered about 20km, with 500ish meter change of altitude, in errr… around 12 hours total excluding the sleep at Fluhalp…. i guess hehehe…. i only roughly count it based on the guidebook (;

Back to civilization!! You can see many different track on the signage, there’s one particular track that written there that you can reach by 10h 45m… oh my god |: then it will be 40 hours for our standard….

Late lunch at Sunnegga Paradise… now i know why they called it paradise… it’s like a good end for a tiring journey… and…

Because they served great steak (;

And ice cream…

It’s below 10 degree centigrade there, but feels much warmer thanks to the warm afternoon sun…

After lunch, we continue and back to Zermatt, you can see the red & blue electric small car… the only vehicle available in Zermatt…

I went around to see Zermatt before we go back to Geneva… and do some small shopping… ( not the Rolex )

Really an interesting small tourist town… most of the building here is hotel / restaurant or shops…

A small town without a car… sounds ideal to me, since i hate to drive car or commute… i spend my life commuting at least 2 hrs daily…

And they have great facilities as well…

All that fact lead into another retirement plan… expensive one though (; strike 5mils toto once not enough….

Get a Marmot plush for N… they said if you’re lucky, you can see marmots during the trekking… since i’m not that lucky, i just bought it lah…

And postcard is the last resort, if you come here but can’t see the Matterhorn at all… >_<

After that, we took train back to Tasch, and drive car back to Geneva. It was a hell of great experience for me doing this trip of “Finding Matterhorn”, really enjoy it despite of tiring walk, especially for a guy who hardly exercise in Singapore. I walked quite a lot in Singapore, but to walk in the city where everywhere is flat smooth surface is totally different from this. My sprained ankle was disturbing me for my next stop at Barcelona though…

Last photo of the post… amazing sky & sunset that we passed as we drove back to Geneva…

See you again Matterhorn (;
