FC Barcelona is the 2nd team that I’m supporting after Liverpool FC, and it’s been a dream for me to visit their stadium and watch their match live. So during my planning stage to visit Barcelona at Autumn 2009, i checked FC Barcelona schedule and quite lucky to have them hosting Almeria at my 2nd last day there. Since it won’t be a big match i decided to just get the ticket on the spot when i reach Barcelona since buying ticket online are more expensive.
I was too lazy to go Nou Camp before the match day ( it’s quite a distance from the city centre ) but i’m afraid that i won’t get a ticket if i show-up directly before the match, so a friend told me that i can book the tickets at tourist information centre at La Rambla.
Nearly a year ago, at 2010 Labor Day Holiday, Me & N went to Hong Kong for a short getaway.. I haven’t visited HK since 1995, so i quite surprise with the current HK ( plus i didn’t really have a lot of memory of the 1995 HK ). We did quite a bit of exploring but more on the HK island. I really fascinated with the Tram, we took tram like 4-5x in a day ( since we stayed on Jen / Traders Hotel, west side of HK island, quite a distance from the MTR, but just one block away from a tram stop ) We also visited some places that used as shooting location for my favourite HK movie, Wong Kar Wai’s “ChungKing Express”
I won’t write a lot about Hong Kong in this post, and i didn’t really have any photos to shared, i was crazy with video that time, so i really doing many gigs of video but totally forgot about taking photos… ( i guess i can’t multitasked well ) Below is the video that i’ve done from the stocks that taken during my visit there, i still have lotsa stocks that i haven’t use, still plan to do another short video of HK but i haven’t really got the right mood in the past 11 months ( lazy lah >_< )
I’m waking up nearly every 2 hours to check the weather, but no luck. Even the rain has stop, but the cloud still blocking the view to Matterhorn. So i had to give up with the idea of doing star trail, and can only hope that the sky will be clear up in the morning.
Around 4 in the morning, the cloud start to moving fast ( thanks to the freezing wind ), i can see a bit glimpse of sky and it’s amazing, you can see the milky way.. but too bad, the cloud is keep coming and blocking.
Still in the same Euro Trip at Fall 2009, one of my main mission on this trip is to see the Mount Matterhorn, I don’t know why.. I think it’s really looks great and it will be fun to visit, but some friends tell me that I got fetish on mountain |:
Thanks again to Cessy & Hedi for making this trip possible, and help me to plan the journey on searching the Matterhorn. All I know is I need to go to Zermatt, but I never really plan more detail on how to go higher, get better view of it and arrange the accommodation.
Zermatt, a small city on Swiss alps ( population : 6000, or 20000 during peak season ), surrounded by mountains with Monte Rosa as the highest peak in Switzerland ( 4632m ) and Matterhorn ( 4478m ) as the most famous one. Is a free-car city, everybody just walk there, with some electric small car operated by hotel. ( or you can take the horse carriage ) The city was really good for living, no traffic ( because no car ), no pollution, everybody seems happy there ( until they realize that the living cost there are one of the highest in Switzerland ) Frida Lyngstad of ABBA is enjoying her retirement life in Zermatt right now.
This is a part of my semi-backpacking trip around Europe at Fall 2009 ( i will blog about it later, i promise ) Thanks again to Cessy, Hedi & Family, that allow me to stay in their place during my visit to Geneva and bring me around! (;
Chateau of Chillon is the place that i always see in any Switzerland travel guide books / website. After seeing the photos and hearing their reputation as “Switzerland’s most visited historic monument” ( written as tagline in their official website http://www.chillon.ch/en/ ) i begged Cessy to bring me there (;
Located about 4km from Montreux, at the side of lake Geneva, the castle is actually quite accessible by public transport, you just need to go to Montreux by train ( http://sbb.ch/en/index.htm ) from Geneva ( The nearest city with international airport i believe ) from there you can take local train / bus or even a cruise boat to reach the castle. But that time i’m actually lucky enough to have her drive me there, it’s about 1.5 hours scenic ride from Geneva and it’s 1.5 hours full of fabulous view!
I posted this video as a “trailer” of the places i visited during 2009-2011..
No lah, actually it just a stock of timelapses and fast-forwarded video that i took, but some never been used and just stuck on the HDD, so i randomly make a video of it 🙂
Anyway, see it in HD for better quality hor…
It’s ironic that my blog title is I need holiday but my virgin travel post is about my “office work” trip…
So the story was at May 2010, i got a chance to visit Dubai to take photos of our office projects there. ( Burj Khalifa is not one of it ) Since one of our project ( The Dubai Mall ) is at downtown Dubai, same place as where Burj Khalifa is, of course i didn’t want to miss the chance to visit it (;
As you know, Burj Khalifa is the tallest human made structure on earth, was design by Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill ( SOM ) It was a mixed used building, mainly for residential, with addition hotel,, restaurant, business suite, communication & broadcast, and of course the observatory. It’s the home of Armani hotel & resident ( http://dubai.armanihotels.com/ ) and the highest restaurant in the world, At.mosphere restaurant ( http://burj-khalifa.eu/tag/restaurant-at-mosphere )
Was named Burj Dubai before, but change to Burj Khalifa during the official opening, to honor the president of UAE ( Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan ) that supporting Dubai during 2008 global financial crisis. ( They borrow money la, that’s why must honor )
Forced to wake up at 6, eat same breakfast everyday, running on tight schedule, going on a big bus to see a over-populated tourist spots for 20 mins before go to some factory / products presentation for 2 hours and being forced to buy something.
That was a common experience that happened when we join a package tour, and it happens to me, once, don’t want to join that kind of thing anymore. And i swear to god, that not the way i want to spend my holiday..
Seeing Eiffel tower for few minutes while the tour guide talks about the history, paying musee du louvre admission ticket just to rush to see Monalisa and go out. I just don’t think that’s a great way to “experience” Paris, it just too short, too brief, borrowing my architecure philosophy lecturer words during uni : it just petting, not even a penetration, it’s not a real thing (;
I wrote this not to tell what’s right or wrong, what’s better or worse, it really depends on people expectation on “experience” things. Some people looking for quantity, others looking for quality, some tours covers the whole america for 21 days, some people can’t even finished new york in 6 months.
